INSOMNIA
This performance piece is based on the feeling of being lost and the constant longing and desire for the place/time/people that were lost. The performer is in a transparent white traditional Balkan dress, sitting in a black suitcase (the same suitcase that she took in the moment when she left her house), changing positions every two minutes. The suitcase is a representation of everything that was left and taken in a two minute time period before leaving home by force or to reach safety. The signal for the position changes is a simple audio background. Female voice numbers things that one would possibly want to put in a suitcase: memories, dreams (ex. The apple tree from the back yard). The audience is asked to participate by writing a list of the things that they would take two minutes before leaving their house and, when finished, they may hang the list on the wall behind the performer. Most of the written items are added to the audio piece at a later point. If the performance is performed more than once in one place, it becomes a cumulate memory of the community that constitutes the festival/event background. The piece can remain in the space as an installation as well without the performer. The suitcase, the lists made by the audience, and the audio are bringing the dimension of absence, loss, and dream trauma on an equally profound level.See photos from the performances in London and Tirana
